Local
hero Damien Faulkner had to settle for third in the
GTC class at today’s
British GT race at Mondello Park having initially led
the class while lying second overall.
Faulkner initially built up a seven second lead before a pace car period intervened
to wipe out his lead. The Trakspeed team decided to take their mandatory pit
stop during he pace car period and when the race restarted they were still second
overall but in a four car battle for the place.
Faulkners team mate Hooker allowed
the very quick GT3 Lotus past in order to concentrate on keeping the GT3
class lead. In the final two laps the constant pressure
told as he first lost second in class to the Team Tiger Marcos and then
on the run to the flag on the last lap was beaten for
second by 0.027 of a second.
Faulkner was happy
to get to the finish today following Saturday’s retirement
but was disappointed to lose out on the class win
having built up a healthy lead prior to the caution period.
Speaking
after today’s race Faulkner said, “I
have to thank David Ashburn for offering me the drive
this weekend, it was really useful to get some mileage
during the month long break in the Porsche Carrera
Cup schedule and I was really happy to be able to
help him out. I also want to thank Rory Fordyce and Piers Masarati
of Trakspeed as the team have done a real good job all weekend.
I was delighted to be able to help them to a podium finish but
we are all a bit disappointed to have lost the lead and then
dropped to third.”
Faulkners next event will be the Porsche Carrera
Cup at Croft on July 21st & 22nd. |
